Wow, it's really an honor for me knowing that you're reading this. Thanks!
Before I tell you about what things you can expect from this blog, I'll tell you something about myself.
Tables for the win!
My name is Stan Faas and I'm a frontend developer. I live in the Netherlands together with my wife and daughter. I was born in the year 1988 and have been "developing" since the age of 12.
Starting out playing with drag and drop editors like the one above, I quickly ended up on the coding side of things, writing plain HTML. Tables mostly. You remember
<table>
? Omg such a headache.. It was awesome to build websites for fun, family and friends with tables. Luckily mobile first wasn't a thing back then.
CSS?
Back then CSS existed, but was just not the same as it is now. So to pimp your website you needed to design something in Photoshop, slice the hell out of it, and fill your tables (with fixed width) with images.
So that was my next learning moment, Photoshop. It was awesome to see what I was capable of with the use of this software. I made super awesome designs which took me 10 hours and then spent like twice the time on slicing and trial and error with the tables.
Anyways, the results were pretty cool for that period in time.
Fast forward
A couple of years ago, it must be around 10 years or so, a friend of mine told me about JavaScript and how it would change the game. I obviously knew about it, but never paid attention to it, untill that day.
He told me: Stan you have to see this, jQuery - it's gonna be the next big thing. I was skeptical but gave it a spin. Instantly hooked.
I was using WordPress, building themes and editting plugins with PHP, back then and it opened up great possibilities to create animations for my websites. That was basically the first time I got into working with JavaScript. And I really liked it.
Time to spend more time on JavaScript
So from that point on I decided JavaScript was the way to go for me. It opened up so many cool things for me to add to my websites. I took some courses, and learned about AngularJS - worked with that for a while. Still not sure if I liked it or not. Prolly because it's so scoped I don't really like it.
But then there was ReactJS.
And that is exactly what most of my blog will be about. I really love React, work with it on daily basis and basically write all my private projects on top of it.
I learn new things every day, and that's exactly what I want to write about on this blog. Tell you what I've learned and hopefully help you make you frontend developer life easier.
Other things I will cover
This blog won't be all about building cool stuff with React as I'll also talk a lot about things like NodeJS, GraphQL, NextJS and any other cool JavaScript/Frontend development related topics.
I hope I've told you enough about me, my background and my goals here. If not, drop me a comment below and I'll make sure to respond to it asap.
Make sure you subscribe to my newletter and be the first to know about cool and exciting things I release. I won't spam you, that's a promise.
